Prof. Mary Murimi
"One of my main motivations is the gap between boys and girls that are progressing to the university level or to a profitable career. Girls and women are still left behind in all sectors of life in Kenya. Being one of the few who was fortunate to have a father who was determined to provide education to all his children regardless of their gender; I am compelled to give back by providing an educational platform to other talented and low-income girls."

Dr. Murimi is a retired Professor of Nutrition in the College of Human Sciences at Texas Tech University,
Past President for the Society of Nutrition Education and Behavior,
Past Associate Editor for the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior
Past Chancellor of Daystar University in Kenya Africa.

Mary Dawson
I retired as an Associate Superintendent. I worked in Monterey County School Districts for just over 17 years. The last 8 years of my career I managed the district's operational teams to include Fiscal (business, payroll, health and welfare benefits), Human Resources, Maintenance Operations and Transportation, Nutrition, Compliance and Technology.
My Education:
Juris Prudence (JD) law degree;
M.S. in Rehabilitation and Corrective Exercise;
B.A. in Sociology with an emphasis in Organizational Development,
A.S. in Administration of Justice.
I am also a certified Chief Business Officer in the state of California through 2026. As you can gleam from my degrees, I value education and have personally experienced the opportunities made available to me as a result of my education. Because I know first hand the value, I want other young girls to experience this as well, which is why I agreed to become a member of the board for Top of The Hill Girls Junior and Senior School.

Michelle Baxter
I have a B.S.Ed degree from Abilene Christian University and M.Ed from Texas Tech University.
I am a retired educator with 40 years of teaching experience. Ten of those years, I lived in Prague, Czech Republic where I taught at a British International School.
I also ran a resource center for missionary families serving in Eastern Europe.
Upon returning to Texas in 2007, I finished my teaching career in May of 2023. I was a high school biology teacher. I look forward to this new partnership with Mary Murimi.
Like many of you, I am praying for and working toward the opening of Top of the Hill GSS.

Martha Achuleta
Martha Archuleta, PhD, serves as the board secretary. She is a professor in the Department of Nutrition, Dietetics and Food Sciences at Utah State University and Past President of the Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior. She has extensive experience in developing hands-on behavior-focused nutrition education curricula for diverse learners and communities. Martha was fortunate to visit Kenya in 2019 with a group led by Dr. Murimi to provide training for Daystar faculty. This trip included a visit to Dr. Murimi’s childhood home and the site for Top of the Hill. At that time, it was a vision and it’s exciting to see the school become a reality that will change the lives and potential of so many girls in Kenya.

Kate Kabahuma
Kate has a passion to bring high quality educational opportunities, and avenues for wealth and better health, to young women across all of East Africa.

John Gwan
John is a Senior Software Developer working who specializes in Higher Education technology. He's also currently a partner in an ambitious tech startup project in Africa.
Having been a high school instructor himself, he has a passion for quality elementary and secondary education- especially in STEM-related fields.
